The Great Pharmacy Debate is a new partnership between the English-Speaking Union and the Museum of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPSGB Museum). An exciting opportunity for KS4 triple science students to debate topical and often controversial subjects, it will draw on the expertise of science and museum professionals from the RPS and debate experts from the ESU.
The Great Pharmacy Debate will take place during National Science & Engineering Week on Friday 13th March 2009 at the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (RPSGB) Headquarters in Lambeth, London. Students will use the Museum’s vast collection of weird and wonderful objects to inspire debates about both historical and current issues about medicines and health. They will also get the opportunity to discuss topics with both pharmacists and pharmacy students. The day will include four rounds of debates, culminating in a final, covering science and history of science topics centred on medicines and health. The debates will be interspersed with guided museum tours, talks from pharmacists and an opportunity to get hands-on with some Victorian medical equipment!
