Schools' Debate
The Dartmouth House Debating Society’s first meeting of the new year took place on Wednesday 11 January, when members of the England Team Development Group treated the audience to a lively debate on the motion “This House would break the law to protect the rights of animals”. The six speakers, Charlotte Norris, Toni Burrows and Jack Devlin in proposition, and Charlotte Thomas, Max Kasriel and Katie Kettle in opposition, are all members of the group from which the England Team (the national schools debating team for England) will be selected in February. The team will go on to compete in the World Schools Debating Competition in Cardiff later this year.
The motion was eventually defeated by 17 votes to 10 (no abstentions). Many thanks to all of the speakers and to the chairperson Lizzie Bauer, who is also a member of the group.
