MPs' Debate at Dartmouth House
The eve of the local elections in England saw the Dartmouth House Debating Society convene for its annual MPs' debate, where John Redwood MP, Nigel Waterson MP, Jonathan Djanogly MP and David Amess MP proposed the motion "This House has no confidence in Her Majesty's government." Defending the status quo were Ian Gibson MP, Kenny Young, Chair of Scottish Labour Students, Gareth Smith, Chair of Labour Students and Anna Wright, Campaigns and Memberships Officer at Labour Students. Accusations of "monumental bungling", "short-sightedness" and "incompetence" were levied by each side, providing a thrilled audience with a highly charged debate.
After a series of floor speeches the votes were cast. The proposition won by 48 votes to 9 with19 abstentions.
The Centre for Speech and Debate would like to thank each of the speakers for giving up their valuable time to participate.
The next session of debates will start with the China debate on Wednesday 4 October.
