US v UK Debate

The US National Debate Team, Paul Bingham and Keith West, who are currently undertaking a three week tour of the UK under the auspices of the ESU, took on the UK National Debate Team, Kenneth Fleming and Sion Owen, at the February meeting of the Dartmouth House Debating Society. The motion was “This House believes that religion has an unhealthy influence on American public life.” The American School in London generously hosted and sponsored the event.
An audience of over two hundred people witnessed a world-class standard of debate with the proposing American team securing a sizable victory with 143 votes to 63 votes, with 20 abstentions.
The ESU wishes to extend its thanks to The American School in London, each of the speakers and to the chairperson John Wilson of the American School.
